Water?
« on: November 14, 2006, 05:08:53 AM »
I don't know how many AAFES stores do this for there employees but the one I work at we have a 5 gal. culligan water machine set up.. At the end of the month they are taking it away.. Its been ordered from region or something like that.. Honestly.. $6.50 a week is too much money for aafes? Hell I told my managers I would provide water for the whole store if its that big of an issue.. They can take it out of my pay if they wish.. 6 bucks a week.. come on can they get any cheaper?

I know what you mean.  As soon as I heard about this, I contacted our HR manager to get further information.  I was told it cost about $24,000 yearly to supply free culligan water to our employees.  I asked her if she as the HR manager knows the importance of water especially in the summer months.  She told me she is aware of the concerns the managers have but her hands are tied.  This is coming from the new General Manager...so she said.  She told me that in the states, AAFES doesn't offer water to its employees.  They are only trying to keep the same standards worldwide.

Yes, it may seems like a bad thing, but where I work, we have 5 soda machines.  3 of them offer filter water.  One offers carbonated water...all free of charge.  The employees can get water out of them...free of charge.  Hopefully where you work they have the same soda machine set up.  If not, contact your Safety and Health Council rep.  They know the importance of water in the summer AND winter months and maybe they can help you.

Wilder, seems you’re just rolling snakes eyes....LOL

This must be just your new GM, trying to impress how he or she cut cost to the Area Manager. That is not a issue at our Exchange
Dottty1 made a good point, get with your Safety and Health Council Rep. Doesn't not matter if its summer or winter. Stateside has a better water source for drinking, which is not the norm here in Europe. A drinkable water source is required, at no cost to the employee.
Oh, that $6.50, that is the cost per bottle, there is a monthly rental fee for the cooler, around $110 plus delivery. It does add up, but it’s actually a small cost overall.

 :)

Gee, Stop $110 a month to rent?
Must be why we BOUGHT one for $85- even if we bought one from culligan or an outside company, it would haven't have run us too much. It cuts costs substantially ... but I wouldn't expect AAFES to think that hard. ;)

The $110 is for one year, your right on buying, much cheaper, but some like to rent so they do not have to sell it later. They do sell the water units in our PXtra. $85 sound about right too.

'Scuse me?!?!

Yes, they DO so offer water to their employees stateside! However, our previous GM had the brains to have a filtration cooler system installed so that tap water runs through the filters at the dispensors. It's cheaper than bringing in bottles, but provides CLEAN, cold water for the associates.

As for free water from the machines... BWAAHAAHAA! I think my current GM would slit his wrists before giving us ANYTHING for free.

Hey, just new here and I think I can help to lift the fog a little on this issue. Yes, you can buy 110V Machines very cheap (e.g. look and Garage sales or FleaMarkets!). If you want to rent a machine from Culligan, you gotta pay $10 for a Cold/room Temperature or $12.50 for a Hot/Cold Cooler. 5 Gal Jugs are about $6.50 + $5 refundable Deposit.
If you wanna get a cooler from the Culligan guyz, delivery is for free. Definetely. I worked for them, gotta know it. But Disgruntled's idea of that filtration system sounds pretty good to me though. :)
